Mischa Barton: "I Had Full-On Breakdown"

Mischa Barton revealed to People that she had a "full-on breakdown" that landed her in a psychiatric ward.

Barton, 27, became tabloid fodder with her excessive partying and bizarre behavior in the years after she rose to fame on "The O.C.," and she is now speaking out for the first time about her downward spiral.

"We thought: "Work hard, play hard,"" Mischa said of her wild years, during which she was busted for DUI.

In 2009, after Barton's parents attempted an intervention, she collapsed after taking a sedative and was placed in the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center psychiatric ward under and involuntary 5150 hold after threatening to commit suicide.

Mischa told People: "It was a full-on breakdown. I was under enormous pressure."

Barton subsequently started to focus on her health, but was bullied after gaining weight.

Barton explained that when she first became famous: "It was always: "She's too skinny, she must be sick. Then it was: "She's too big." I was never the right weight."

Thankfully, Barton is more stable after years of struggle.

"I've learned a lot," Mischa revealed to the mag, adding: "I'm stronger now."
