Nigella Lawson Alleged Drug Use Under Investigation By London Police

British police announced on Sunday that they would examine evidence suggesting that celebrity chef Nigella Lawson used drugs including cocaine.

Lawson, 53, admitted under oath earlier this month that she has done cocaine in years past and smoked the occasional weed during a trial against her former assistants, who were accused of fraud.

Both ex-employees, who were acquitted of the charges last week, had blamed Lawson for a habitual drug issue during the trial.

In a statement late Saturday, London's Metropolitan Police revealed that a special team will "examine all the evidence emerging as part of a review into this matter and in conjunction with the Crown Prosecution Service will determine an appropriate way forward."

Thus far, the testimony has not been cause enough to file any charges against the the celebrity chef, but will be reviewed again in the new investigation.

"The senior investigating officer received legal advice that the witness's admissions did not by themselves provide sufficient evidence to bring charges," the statement reads, adding: "On that basis therefore, and in absence of any other corroboration, there is no imminent prospect of a prosecution being mounted."

Lawson has repeatedly claimed she has not a drug problem and said in a statement following the trial that the allegations made were "deliberately designed to destroy my reputation."
