Nick Cannon Talks Amanda Bynes' Mental Illness

In a new interview with "HuffPost Live", Nick Cannon spoke out about his longtime pal Amanda Bynes, claiming he believes she needs help.

Cannon, 34, revealed he is saddened by the media coverage of her issues and the public's reaction.

The "America's Got Talent" host confessed that Bynes, 28, reached out to him "a few weeks ago via text," calling her "family to me."

The star also criticized the fact that people "make fun of her," when the Nickelodeon actress appears to be struggling with a serious mental illness.

"If this was a person who was in a mental hospital, would you do the same thing?" Cannon asked, pointing out: "But just because she's someone that is a public figure, we feel like it's fun."

He went on: "But no, this is someone who needs help, and rightly so, she was getting help. And I'm pretty sure she'’ll continue to get help again."

This past year, Cannon described Bynes as a "little sister" and later wrote an open letter asking people to have "compassion" for her.
