"American Idol" Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe Confirms He Was Fired
It seems that "American Idol" will have new executives behind-the-scenes when it returns for season 13.
Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, 63, confirmed on twitter on Saturday that he was let go from the music competition series.
"just had 10 days in the Bahamas, rain everyday. I get back to the States and get fired," he tweeted.
Explaining he will still be an EP and judge on "So You Think You Can Dance," and insisting that "FOX still loves me," Lythgoe stated the "Idol" changes aren't "a personal thing."
"they just feel IDOL needs new leadership after 12 Seasons," he revealed.
Fellow executive producer Ken Warwick was also let go.
Judges Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj have all announced their departures from the show, while Keith Urban's "Idol" future remains unknown.
The first round of contestant auditions - without the judges - is slated to begin July 11.
