James Franco On Underwear Selfie: "It Was For My Fans. It's What People Want" (VIDEO)

James Franco was asked relentlessly about his infamous underwear selfie posted on Instagram on Thursday's "Late Show with David Letterman."  



"James, why? Honest to god, why?" Letterman, 67, questioned Franco. 

Franco, 36, replied that he wanted to clarify his motivations, calling his habit for sharing provocative images "just a fun thing."



"It's not like I'm putting it on billboards," Franco pointed out, noting: "Ostensibly, Instagram is for my fans."

"It's what the people want," Franco added.
