Quvenzhane Wallis Stars In "Annie"
Quvenzhane Wallis, who's nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her performance in "Beasts of the Southern Wild", is set to star as the lead in the upcoming remake of the musical "Annie".
On Sunday, Hannah Minghella, Columbia Pictures production head, was quoted as saying: "With the recent Academy Award nomination and critical acclaim, Quvenzhane Wallis is a true star and we believe her portrayal as Annie will make her a true worldwide star."
"She is an extraordinary young talent with an amazing range, not only as an actress but as a singer and dancer, and we can't wait for audiences to further discover her," Mighella added.
"Annie" is set to be released during the holiday season in 2014 and will be directed by Will Gluck. The production will be made by Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith, as well as Jay-Z.
Willow Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith's daughter, had initially been cast in the role of "Annie", but had dropped out.
