Princess Diana Abortion

According to the book "The Real Diana" by Lady Colin Campbell, Princess Diana had an abortion after she became pregnant by a lover before she and Prince Charles divorced.

Although she "freaked out" when she learned she was carrying a child in 1994, Diana thought that keeping the baby, telling friends: "Suppose it's a girl?"

Diana is said to have eventually chosen to have an abortion, however, after deciding the resulting scandal would be too damaging for her sons, William and Harry.

Author Lady Colin Campbell does not name the baby's father. However, it has been well documented that Diana had a four-year affair with art dealer Oliver Hoare around the same time.

There were rumors that Diana on one occasion had slipped out of Kensington Palace to meet him wearing nothing but a fur coat, diamond earrings and high-heeled shoes.

It has to be noted that Mr Hoare was once caught hiding behind a pot-plant half-naked while smoking a cigar by Diana's then bodyguard, Ken Wharfe.

The art dealer's French-born wife, Diane - a friend of Prince Charles - found out the affair after receiving more than 300 nuisance calls to their Kensington home.

She called in the police who traced them to Diana's private line at Kensington Palace, but at Mr Hoare's request no action was taken.

According to the book, a tearful Diana made the calls only after becoming "almost unhinged" with misery and grief over her abortion.

According to the book, "The Real Diana", the Princess used a meeting with her financial adviser and confidant Joseph Sanders as a cover for her termination before returning home to Kensington Palace and tearfully taking to her bed. Mr Sanders passed away last year so it is impossible to verify the account.

But his ex wife, Anita, revealed: "They were very close and Joseph idolised her. He was discreet and wouldn't in the normal way tell me everything that Diana said. But I guessed what happened and got it out of him."

Lady Colin also quotes one of her principal sources - believed to be the late Lady Victoria Weymouth, daughter of the 9th Earl of Hardwicke - as saying: "She wanted the baby. "Suppose it's a girl", she told, but was distraught at what she knew she had to do.

"She couldn't have an illegitimate baby. She couldn't do that to William and Harry. The scandal would have been too much."

Mr Hoare was unavailable for comment at the weekend. A member of staff stated he and his wife "were abroad".

According to Lady Colin, Mr Hoare was only one among a string of men whose company Diana enjoyed during her marriage.

Among them was Henry Herbert, the 17th Earl of Pembroke, a "dashingly handsome" film producer who directed Prince Andrew's former girlfriend, Koo Stark, in a soft-porn film called Emily.

The Earl died last year so, once again, it is not possible to confirm or deny the allegation and his family has refused to comment.

Diana is also said to have had an affair with an Old Etonian banker who "looked like Clark Kent".

Among Lady Colin's more controversial claims is that the Princess had a fling with King Juan Carlos of Spain while on a cruise with the monarch and his wife, Sofia, in August 1986, and then again the following summer.

According to the author's source, Diana did it to make Charles jealous - but it didn't work. "He couldn't have cared less," she revealed.

According to royal watcher Victoria Mathers, the author
Lady Colin Campbell is "a woman of uncertain reputation herself."

It has to be noted that in the tapes found Diana reveals that she and Charles had sex only once every three weeks before their sex life eventually "fizzled out." She also claims her bodyguard, Barry Mannakee was killed for having an affair with her. Mannakee, a married police officer, died in a mysterious 1987 motorcycle accident. Diana calls him "the greatest fellow I've ever had."

The question is: "Do you think that Princess Diana had an abortion in 1994 as the book claims?"
