Alanis Morissette: "Fame Caused Me To Have PTSD" (VIDEO)
In an exclusive footage from Oprah's Super Soul Sunday, Alanis Morissette revealed that her early experiences with fame led her to PTSD.
"PTSD" is a posttraumatic stress disorder, which develops after a person is exposed to one or more traumatic events, such as sexual assault, warfare, serious injury or threats of imminent death. War veterans are also at risk for PTSD.
On this Sunday's episode, Winfrey, 60, asks Morissette: "You use the term PTSD, what do you really mean by that?"
Morissette, 40, responded: "Traumatized because I think that on some level, becoming famous and wanting fame, there's some trauma."
Alanis admits that she wanted fame, but once she got it: "The traumatized person, in this case, me, gets traumatized by the thing I thought would be the balm. I thought that everything would be helped and soothed and healed by fame."
The Canadian-American singer-songwriter stated she thought the love she would receive from fame would "heal any of the broken parts" inside.
